1.1 How to Design a CCC Experience (Step-by-Step)

This guide walks you through designing a Cross-Cultural Catalyst experience that fits your context, capacity, and group—without overbuilding.

Step 1 — Clarify the Aim

Before selecting content, decide what this CCC experience is meant to accomplish.

Choose one primary aim:

  • First exposure to cross-cultural realities
  • Helping a group see the nations in their city
  • Creating space for prayer, reflection, and obedience
  • Equipping leaders to replicate CCC with others A clear aim keeps the experience focused.

Step 2 — Select the Teaching(s)

You do not need to use every teaching.

Default choice

  • Biblical Basis of Missions Add if engaging locally

  • God’s Heart for the Foreigner Add if awareness is low

  • The State of the World For most groups, one teaching is enough.

Step 3 — Choose Experiential Activities

Select activities based on readiness, time, and facilitation capacity.

Low barrier

  • Prayer Walk

  • Mapping Your City Moderate engagement

  • United Nations Cocktail Party

  • Visiting a Place of Worship High impact (use selectively)

  • Refugee Loss Simulation Avoid stacking multiple high-intensity activities.

Step 4 — Shape the Flow

A simple flow works for most CCC experiences:

  1. Teaching
  2. Experiential Activity
  3. Debrief, Reflection and Prayer If time allows, add a second activity or reflection.

Step 5 — Plan for Debrief, Reflection, and Prayer

Debrief is where meaning forms.

Helpful questions:

  • What did you notice?
  • What surprised or unsettled you?
  • What questions surfaced?
  • Where might God be inviting obedience? Protect this time.

Step 6 — Decide Next Steps in Advance

Before you begin, decide how participants can respond and what you are challenging them to based on their experiences.

Examples:

  • Ongoing prayer
  • Exploring the Step In Study
  • Local engagement opportunities
  • Replicating CCC with another group CCC is catalytic by design—movement matters more than completion.
